Note that saved worlds and settings from previous versions aren't compatible with this one.
The new version has all the features I've written about since the original upload, plus a few that I haven't. Here's a summary:
UI and presentation
- Proper installer application
- New app icon (courtesy of u/Iron-Phoenix2307)
- Nicer font (Roboto)
- Clearer organisation of information
- Automatic update notifications
World generation
- Three sizes of worlds now possible
- New terrain types: non-tectonic and ocean worlds
- Greater variety of tectonic terrain
- New features: craters, mud flats, beaches, mangroves
- Much larger sandy deserts
- Variable planetary information: orbital eccentricity and obliquity, gravity, etc
- More robust, detailed, and flexible climate modelling, allowing for exotic climates
Custom worlds
- In addition to importing maps, custom-generated ones are now possible with user-defined settings
- Ability to specify all planetary variables, including extreme settings
And of course various bugs have been eliminated, and many exciting new ones added.
The source code has all been updated too, so everyone is welcome to poke around in there too.
Huzzah!
ReplyDeleteHello, i love your generator, and i have a couple of questions/suggestions on what to do.
ReplyDeleteDo you think its possible for creator to have an option where we can modify the area? ( or to be precise, for the generator to stretch the outline of continents near the polars so it can look good on globe models?
Do you think it is possible for the custom generation to have the "brush" option? where we can make the landmasses for ourselves and have the program calculate the rest?
I dont know why but i cant save both the world and area map. Otherwise i love every function the program is capapble of doing. Hope you wont abandon it!
Thank you, I'm really glad you like it!
DeleteThere isn't really a need for brush tools within Undiscovered Worlds, because you can create your own landmasses in any image editing app and then import them into UW using the Import options. Have a look at the first post for more detailed instructions - there is also a link to a set of example files (for Middle Earth).
The idea of being able to stretch the maps near the poles to resemble a genuine global projection is quite interesting. It might be doable - I shall have a think about it!
Do you mean you can't export the map images? It ought to be working, though sometimes it stops working for some reason. You may find that saving the world, quitting the program, then running it again and reloading makes it work. This is a known bug but alas the cause isn't known!

DeleteThank you for response, on which post i cna find info about uploading my own topographic map? i see you posted Arda map on github, but i dont really understand which colors to use. Would be grateful for explanation :)
DeleteNo problem - have a look here - https://undiscoveredworlds.blogspot.com/2019/01/what-is-undiscovered-worlds.html and scroll down to "The custom world screen". Hopefully it should make sense but please feel free to ask if it isn't!
DeleteHi, i dont want to bother, i run the tests and UW doesnt save anything, i made folder inside the UW folder and the process and messages says that everything goes fine, but nothing shows up in the destination folder, not the worlds as whole projects, not the area maps. Do you maybe know what to do in this situation? Restarts dont help.
DeleteReinstall also does not work, area maps still can crash the program tho :v. Working on W11.
DeleteI'm not sure what to suggest about this, as I can't replicate the issue. Can anyone else comment on whether they're having similar problems? If the worst comes to the worst it's always possible simply to take a screenshot to save map images, but it's not an ideal solution!
